The journey
Bali was one of those family trips where every single day felt completely different.
One morning we were walking beside the ocean, the next we were surrounded by rice terraces in Ubud, and somehow a day later we were sitting on a boat heading towards an island. It genuinely felt like we managed to fit three different vacations into one week. 😭
We started our trip in Seminyak, which was basically the perfect introduction to Bali. Beautiful beaches, cafés everywhere, little shops and those sunsets that make everyone automatically take their phones out.
Our first couple of days were intentionally slow. After travelling, nobody wanted an aggressive itinerary, so we spent time exploring Seminyak, relaxing near the beach and trying Indonesian food.
And travelling with family obviously meant food was discussed approximately every two hours.
"Where are we having lunch?"
We'd literally just finished breakfast. 😂
Then we moved towards **Ubud**, and Bali suddenly looked completely different.
Instead of beaches, there were forests, temples, rice fields and little roads surrounded by greenery. The drive itself was beautiful, and naturally we kept asking the driver to stop whenever somebody spotted a nice view.
The Tegallalang Rice Terraces were easily one of my favourite places. Everything was ridiculously green, and walking through the terraces felt so different from the beachy Bali we'd experienced just a day earlier.
We also explored temples around Ubud and spent some time around the local markets. My family entered the market saying we'd "just look around."
Obviously nobody just looked around.
By the time we left, everyone was carrying something. 😭
Then came Nusa Penida.
We had to start ridiculously early for the boat, and nobody in my family looked particularly happy about that decision at first.
But the moment we reached the island...
Worth it.
The cliffs, turquoise water and views around Kelingking Beach looked almost unreal. This was probably the day our camera roll suffered the most because literally every corner needed a picture.
The island roads were an experience of their own though.
Let's just say nobody was sleeping during those drives. 😂
Towards the end of our trip, we explored **Uluwatu**, and this was probably my favourite evening in Bali.
We visited the temple overlooking the ocean and stayed for the sunset. Watching the sky turn orange while waves crashed against the cliffs below was one of those moments where everyone became unusually quiet.
Even my family.
Which honestly says a lot. 😭
The best thing about Bali was that we got a little bit of everything—beaches, islands, temples, forests, markets, cafés and plenty of family time in between.
Of course, there were the usual family-trip moments.
Someone asking if everyone had their passports.
Someone carrying snacks everywhere.
Someone complaining that we'd taken enough pictures.
And then that same person asking for their own picture five minutes later.
Classic.
Seven days went surprisingly fast.
By the last evening, we were sitting together talking about which place had been everyone's favourite, and nobody could actually agree.
Maybe that's what made Bali such a good family trip.
There wasn't just one highlight.
The whole week felt like one.
